The philosophy of REDAN’S Music Program is centered on the fundamental belief that music is basic and an important part of any education.  We also believe it is necessary to life.  We believe music is:

• Science – it is exact, specific and demands acoustical knowledge.
• Mathematical – it is rhythmically based and demands subdivisions.
• Foreign Language – terms are Italian, German, or French and the notes themselves are highly developed shorthand.
• History – music depicts history as it was developed.
• Multicultural – it depicts culture throughout the world down through history.
• Physical Education – it demands great coordination of fingers, hand, arms, lips, cheeks, diaphragm, chest, back, and facial muscles.
• Art – above all, music allows us to take all these disciplines that allow our creativity and emotion to reflect and portray our musical scene of life. 

Redan Marching Band's Achievements:

• 2005 and 2007 Winners of the VH1 "Battle of Bands"

• Winning Band at the DeKalb County Exhibition

• 1st Place for the South Carolina "Battle of the Bands"

It is not our goal for the student to become music majors or to play all their lives, though many students do.  Our goal is for them to be able to recognize the beauty, have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more feeling – HAVING LIFE FOR MUSIC!!

It is our philosophy to expand your student's musical intelligence and increase their capacity for feeling through the band medium.  Our primary role is the artistic realization of musical expression and affective values.
